'Tigers Ink' from the Living Ink Series
Concept Sketch: This is the very beginning and very rough stage..where i'm not as concerned about proportions, or details but only in getting composition and concepts across onto the paper.
| Refined Sketch ''Geisha": This is where is starts to gel. I sometimes take a sketch apart and work on it in layers. This is the final sketch and detail before shading & color. This is the Geisha layer.
| Initial Shading: I really hate this pic..but it was important in that it showed me what I didn't want to be doing.
Skin Colour, Lighting & Shading: This is where most of the work is done on the Geisha's. I went back and refined the anatomy. The skin will have to be lightened and the colour ajusted. The pins in her hair are built seperately and composited in.
Final Colour Tones & Shading: The last touches and colour corrects are done for this layer. The Geisha is complete.
Background Wall Art: I sketched and painted this piece for the background. I wanted to put more "Tiger" in the background and to have it's colours saturate the composition.
| BackGround Layer: Background layer...enough said.
Tiger Pictures/References: These are the two main images I used for reference on the tiger.
Tiger Art Layer: Here is the Tiger Layer, finished for the most part..needs some colour adjustments and more shading.
Tattoo Art and Combining Different Layers: This is where the Background Layer, The Tiger and the Geisha all come together, with details such as the wooden fan, tattoos, butterflys and the red silk sheet are added in. The bottom silloutte of the tiger is used to make the shadows beneath him. The same goes with the Geisha...as her shadow is cast on the big cat. Also the colour of the background is used to tint the side of the Geishas skin and the colour of the tiger is bounced off her skin.
